Susan Lorenzana is an illustrator and mixed media stained glass artist whose artwork is held in many private collections. Susan specializes in low relief glass wall art and glass jewelry.
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember and initially focused on illustration studies in college. After taking a traditional stained glass art class, I became intrigued by where glass art could be taken beyond lead came and copper foil techniques. Due to desiring more flexibility and options to express myself via glass art, my journey into low relief glass wall art began.
I primarily work with a wide variety of stained glass and often incorporate fused glass, kiln formed glass, items from nature, semi-precious gemstones, antique jewelry, millefiori, and musical instruments into my glass art. I've developed proprietary techniques and am constantly pushing the preconceived boundaries of art glass.
Nature, music, and the spirit of life are all themes in my stained-glass artwork. Avant-garde artists like M.C. Escher, Albrecht Dürer, and Salvador Dali are also great inspirations. Glass artists Dale Chihuly, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Clara Driscoll, and Harry Clarke have influenced me. Also, after a vacation to Italy, Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling masterpiece is always on my mind.
